Everything but the Bard

The party’s reputation precedes them, and they are greeted shortly after their arrival by Sam “the Magnificent,” who claims to be a servant of a local magician. This turns out to be Irieatis the Bard, a famous orator and adventurer well-known throughout the continent. The party is greeted at her house by Quijo the Rotund, a collector of “magic” items and the manager of Irieatis’s affairs when she is out of town.

Irieatis was last in town three weeks ago, and she headed off into the dead pines to investigate the barrows, about a day and a half’s journey northwest into the hill forest.

For the most part, townsfolk think of the barrows as just ancient burial grounds, something of a tourist attraction. (A few people think that’s how the dead pines got their name, but this isn’t actually true.) Quijo is rightfully worried that what should have been a routine excursion for a week has lasted so long without news.
